The food in the cafe and the buffet was very good. We probably would not stay here again unless we got a great deal on the price. But I would not stay there if I did not have a rental car. It is a bit of a drive from the Strip but we spend our time in the smaller local casinos anyway. The outside temp was only in the 80's which is cool in the desert. The thermostat on our floor was set at 60 degrees. We could not really enjoy our gambling time there as it was so cold. We are use to casinos being pretty cold but the South Point should have been called the South Pole. Our major complaint was the temperature in the casino and hotel. The casino layout is very nice, not smoky at all and very spacious. The pool area was beautiful but they are building a new tower so its very noisy while the construction is going on. The room was huge and it had a small coffee pot which is great in Vegas. We had a deluxe king room on the 4th floor with a view of nothing. We stayed at SouthPoint from September 15 to 21st. There is a Bof A and Citibank a 5 minute drive away and I cashed my check there-no problem. Of course, they also got all my private and confidential financial info- TO CASH A CHECK!! Be aware, obviously all casinos are tied into this- bring cash, credit card advance or whatever, but don't cash a check unless you want Big Brother watching. Was told this was a new law in Las Vegas? Since I didn't have my social security card with me, I was asked to fill out an IRS form that enabled them to obtain a copy of my latest IRS tax filing so they could see my social security number. You now get to the strip in about 5-10 minutes Tried to cash a check at the cashier- had to fill out a credit appli- cation and had to present a social security card. Very clean, quiet and most important- BOTH OFFRAMPS OFF THE 15 FREEWAY ARE NOW OPEN IN EACH DIRECTION.
